Introducing the AccessAbility Award

The Whitby Chamber of Commerce and the Abilities Centre are proud to announce the launch of the new AccessAbility Award, a recognition program celebrating businesses, organizations, programs, and initiatives that are advancing accessibility and inclusion in the Town of Whitby.

Accessibility is more than a requirement—it is a commitment to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive. Organizations that embrace accessibility create stronger workplaces, better customer experiences, more innovative solutions, and a more connected community.

Through the leadership of the Whitby Chamber’s IDEA Committee (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility), the Chamber has continued to explore ways to support and recognize organizations that are making a positive impact in these areas. Partnering with the Abilities Centre on this initiative was a natural next step, bringing together two organizations that share a vision of building a more inclusive Whitby.

The AccessAbility Award was created to recognize organizations that demonstrate leadership in areas such as:

  • Creating accessible and welcoming environments
  • Removing barriers to participation
  • Developing innovative accessibility initiatives
  • Supporting individuals of all abilities
  • Promoting awareness, education, and inclusion within the community

The award is open to businesses, non-profit organizations, community programs, educational institutions, and other initiatives located in Whitby that are making meaningful contributions toward accessibility and inclusion.

Nominations Are Now Open

Nominations for the AccessAbility Award are now officially open through the Whitby Chamber of Commerce website.

Community members, employees, customers, clients, volunteers, and business leaders are encouraged to submit nominations for organizations that are helping create a more accessible and inclusive Whitby.

Unlike traditional awards programs with a limited nomination window, nominations for the AccessAbility Award will remain open on an ongoing basis, allowing deserving organizations to be recognized throughout the year as their impact continues to grow.

If you know a business, organization, program, or initiative that is breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and helping people of all abilities thrive, we encourage you to submit a nomination today.

Together, we can celebrate the leaders who are helping build a Whitby where everyone has the opportunity to belong, participate, and succeed.
