First-ever Chamber volleyball tournament a smashing success

Originally scheduled in June, the Whitby Chamber of Commerce’s (WCC) first-ever volleyball tournament was rescheduled due to rain. However, that only gave participants more time to super charge their spikes as the rain date, August 3, turned out to be a hot and fun-filled day in the sun.

Organized by the WCC’s Young Entrepreneurs & Professionals (YEP) Committee, the Chamber Smash & Beach Bash welcomed six teams to get dirty at Canlan Ice Sports while repping their team colour. Champions of the day were Team Blue, which was comprised of representatives from Naylor Building Partnerships.

In true YEP fashion, winners of the day weren’t necessarily the winners on the courts. Throughout the day, teams racked up points through various mini-games, including Giant Beach Pong, Plinko and a round of Name That Tune!

As always, Shawn Walsh from Step by Step Pro DJ Services kept the party going, playing favourite summer hits and co-emceeing the event with YEP Committee Chair, Shane Terry.

“It was great to see so many new faces out there,” said Terry. “It was a hot day but everyone involved was eager to participate with a high-level of energy and sportsmanship.”
