The Town of Whitby is currently completing a zoning study for home occupation in Whitby.

The Town recognizes there has been a growing trend over the past 20 years towards establishing home based businesses. According to the 2006 Census, approximately 6.4 % of Whitby's employed labour force works from home. The growth of home occupation is responsive to a number of factors such as corporate downsizing, the growth in two income families and the desire for greater work and life balance.
The Town is currently in phase 1 of a 3 phase process in the review and study.
The Town of Whitby held an information open house on May 23 to provide some general background information on the process and what currently exists.
The final stage in phase 1 is a Home Occupation Zoning Study Questionnaire for residents to review, complete and return to the Planning Department prior to June 15th, 2012.

You are not required to provide your name or contact information to complete the survey. You can also drop off your completed survey at the Chamber office and we will ensure that your survey reaches the Town Planning Department prior to the deadline.
Phase 2 of the project which will occur during the summer with the analyzing of the information collected in phase 1 by the town planning staff. Phase 3 will occur in the fall with the hosting of a public meeting report outlining draft recommendations for the Zoning By-law amendments and preparing the Recommendation Report outlining the proposed Zoning By-law amendments and the preparation of the amendments as directed by Council.
