J Ajax MinuteMan Press
June 2007 is the one year Anniversary for Minuteman Press in Ajax and Wow! what a great year it has been. We all know what the first year in business is like, don't we? Joy in our first sale, pain in our first loss and most of all the mystery in what the future holds for us.
Coming from Guyana and still owning one of the top print-shops for over 15 years there, we knew that with the caliber of entrepreneurs in Durham, we would have to utilize our printing experience to present something phenomenal to impress you. We invested in every piece of equipment to output same day or 24 hours printing in-house.
In December 2006, after a mere six months in we broke even and at nine months turned over a profit. Our store has received an award for sales and customer service for January 2007 from our head office. We have since broken our own sales record every single month since.
At our Harwood Avenue location we have a graphics department to bring your imagination to reality and a production team to have your Offset printing and Digital full color done right before your very eyes. Come by and see for yourself.
In 2007 Minuteman Press was awarded BEST PRINTING FRANCHISE IN THE WORLD by Entrepreneur Magazine for the 13th year in a row. We have almost a 1,000 stores worldwide and being part of such a powerful network enables us to produce any kind of printing you can possibly require.
Just remember your order will be Designed, Printed and Custom tailored with cutting, 3 hole punching, folding, numbering, laminating, stapling, binding and padding right here at our convenient Ajax store.
We are eternally grateful for having served you over the past year and look forward to continuously providing you with the best printing you have ever seen.
K Unique Mobile Media

Roy Druce of Unique Mobile Media is no stranger to operating and owning a business in Whitby. It all started back in 1986, when Roy began with Control Panel System (CPS), a local business that was manufacturing custom electrical control panels and distributing a multitude of other products within the automotive sector. This company grew from a single person to a staff of 20 before Roy recently sold his interests in 2003 to a partner that was involved in the business several years later after its inception.
After a brief vacation, I was approached by a good friend that had been in the vehicle wrap and advertising business for 20 years and wanted to know whether I was interested in participating in a new business once again. I readily accepted, as I like to take on new challenges in business and the timing for this type of advertising and promotion seemed ideal. We found the required space we needed at our current location at 1375 Hopkins Street in the back of the complex which ironically is in the same building where CPS is located.
Unique Mobile Media specializes in design, printing and installation of large format graphics within the mobile vehicle industry. We provide eye catching digitally printed vehicle graphics to fully advertise and promote any type of business. More and more companies are looking at vehicle graphics as an effective means for advertising. Full color vehicle wraps are relatively new but more companies are becoming aware of them so demand is rising considerably. Vehicle graphics is surprisingly affordable, especially if you consider the one time cost versus the number of impressions you make with those who see your vehicle.
The entire process from start to finish is relatively straight forward. We gather existing artwork and any other marketing material from the client that can be used to develop the design of the vehicle wrap. Once we develop the design, we provide concepts of the actual wrap onto the client's vehicle type from our extensive vehicle library. By doing this, our customer can see exactly how the wrap will look once it has been produced and installed. The concept is reviewed with the client and changes are completed where necessary. The final concept of the vehicle is provided and approved by the customer, and production of the wrap begins. Once production is finalized, the client's vehicle is wrapped using our 3M certified installers.
Our main source for new business is referrals from previously satisfied customers. Therefore, we fully understand that our client's expectations must be fully met for us to achieve this opportunity for new business. We strive to make every customer a satisfied customer. We look forward to making you a happy customer!

N Gus Brown
Gus Brown Pontiac Buick GMC From General Motors production worker to prospering owner of a GM dealership, E.H. ‘Gus’ Brown has quite a success story to tell.
It all began with a used car lot at the corner of Kendalwood and Dundas St. E., back in 1963.“We had only nine used cars and a single string of outside lights,” recalls Mr. Brown who worked long hours building up his business. “Every time we sold an automobile in those days,” he says, “We used to have to rush out and buy another one to maintain a variety for the customers.” Later he formed a limited company under the name Gus Brown Motors. In 1968, Gus acquired the General Motors dealership and opened up at 300 Dundas St. E. Whitby with 23 employees. Today Gus Brown Pontiac Buick GMC employs over 100 full and part-time employees committed to service excellence. “The industry today is much more specialized than in the past” says Gus. “The ongoing training and specialization are integral in today’s dynamic environment and we are up to the challenge. We use state of the art training facilities for all of our departments. The training coupled with our online, web enabled systems provide us with real-time access to General Motors, the dealer network and all of our suppliers.” This specialized service has led to improved customer satisfaction, something in which Gus and his team believe very strongly. “It is important that people feel comfortable,” he says. “We are dedicated to serving our customers. We must be doing something right, because our customers keep coming back.” Achievements include 17 time winner (most recently in 2005) of the General Motors President’s Triple Crown award, 3 time winner of the Jack Smith award given to the top 10 Canadian Dealers, the Reader’s Choice award as well as the 2001 Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award. Gus Brown Pontiac Buick GMC was the first car dealership to launch the Durham Region Health Department’s Smoke Free Car Campaign and is also one of the United Way’s largest contributors. Gus Brown is also very active in supporting the Heroes of Hope Campaign for the new Durham Region Cancer Center. It is this commitment to excellence that has helped the dealership become the #1 ranking GM dealership in the Durham Region for retail sales.
P Mom and Baby Depot
Mom and Baby Depot’s Health and FamilyResourceCenter is first of its kind in Canada. We offer traditional medical doctors working alongside chiropractors and naturopaths. In addition we offer healthy life-style supports such as parenting and fitness programs. Families join our center by purchasing a “private” membership package that gives them medical healthcare support beyond OHIP’s standard coverage and access to our multidisciplinary team. As we move into 2007, and our first anniversary, we are pleased to proclaim the benefits our “Private Care Model” has brought to families in the region. Public healthcare is a Canadian value by which we define ourselves. Unfortunately for many Canadians our public healthcare system is limited in providing continuity of care and “time” with patients to fully address their concerns. For parents of a first baby or parents of a sick child, the timeliness of care is what they value most. To be able to get urgent care, from the doctor that knows their child best, is a luxury most have never experienced. At Mom and Baby Depot we offer children’s health visits that are un-rushed. A usual well-child doctor visit at Mom and Baby Depot is an hour long. We also guarantee same-day visits when needed and offer families 24 hour a day contact with our healthcare team. Our team is here to meet member needs 365 days a year. In addition to our unique combination and availability of our healthcare team ….our clinic has a “home-like”, “non-clinical” atmosphere. You enter through our “family-kitchen”. Families can enjoy refreshments or prepare lunch for their little ones between programs and appointments. Upstairs we have a full gym where families take part in pre-natal, mom and tot and family fitness programs. Comfortable “living room style” meeting rooms host breastfeeding drop-in and other parent–to-parent support groups, along with small group presentations for parenting, pre-natal and healthy lifestyle classes. Child-minding is available on-site and families can curl up together in our reading room to share a book or two. We invite you to check out our website at www.momandbabydepot.ca and/or drop by and visit our center. At Mom and Baby Depot we are working to improve family’s satisfaction with the healthcare they receive. We believe a public / private choice for non-emergent services allows for client-centered innovation in Canadian healthcare.

Spring Into a Cleaner & Healthier Environment Many of us routinely get into Spring cleaning mode this time of year but are you neglecting one very important aspect of Spring cleaning, and that’s your office?
Healthy workplaces are becoming more and more important. Working in a clean environment offers a number of benefits. A clean work place reduces the risk of illness, increases performance and healthy people are more productive. Excessive dust and grime (not to mention food) will affect the overall running of your equipment. Everyone prefers using clean equipment and a clean appearance shows that you care. Recent studies show that telephones rank the #1 home for office germs, followed by desks, keyboards and mice. Some viruses can survive up to 3 days on common office surfaces. Touching a contaminated surface can spread germs that cause illness. Proper hand washing is vital in reducing the spread. This is why Health officials have documented “Hand washing” as a vital procedure in planning for the pandemic flu. I recently had the opportunity to clean the computers and equipment at the Whitby Chamber of Commerce. This was the reaction: “It was time that our machines went through a good spring cleaning. I was extremely pleased with the results. What a difference and knowing that we are doing our part to keep germs in control makes me feel good for the work environment for the Chamber staff. It's a great service!" Margot Weir, CEO Whitby Chamber of Commerce Computer Cleaning Services offers these tips to help maintain a cleaner and healthier environment: · Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizers. Be aware of what you touch and keep shared surfaces clean. · Have your equipment thoroughly cleaned followed by a 10 minute disinfecting process. · Maintain your environment by using disinfecting wipes. It takes 30 seconds to sanitize a surface. Helping spread the word, not the germs! Submitted by Jacqueline Miller, Computer Cleaning Services. For more information contact 905-999-2414 computercs@rogers.com or check out www.computercleaningservices.com
