ABOUT THE AWARDS:

Peter Perry Award

Since 1955 the Whitby Chamber of Commerce has been proud to honour Whitby's Outstanding Citizen of the year by recognizing their commitment to the community through the Annual Peter Perry Award. It is spirit, enthusiasm and dedication to the community that the Whitby Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize in our community today

Many people in our community give countless hours to make our community a better place for us all. The Peter Perry Award is an extension of that commitment to give back to our town and honours one outstanding individual who has made significant contributions to the Town of Whitby - "Whitby's Citizen of the Year".


Business Achievement Awards

The Business Achievement Awards were created by the Whitby Chamber of Commerce to recognize companies and individuals who have made exemplary achievements in business. Seven (7) awards will be given to recipients based on specific criteria - Business Person of the Year, Business Achievement 1 to 49 Employees, Business Achievement 50 or more Employees Young Entrepreneur, Skills Development & Training, Healthy Workplace and Environmental Achievement.

BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION

Your company will gain recognition as a top achiever and will join leading companies in the Whitby, as an outstanding member of this community. Your business will be recognized by media and business newsletters. All recipients are awarded at the Peter Perry and Business Achievements Awards Gala November 17, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY

To submit a nomination form for yourself, your company or on behalf of another individual/company, the following are required:

Peter Perry:
Individuals nominated must have contributed to the social development, prosperity and well being of the Town of Whitby for a minimum of five (5) years

Business Achievement Award:
The business or business person must be either a member of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce and/or a business located in the Town of Whitby (including Brooklin, Ashburn and Myrtle)

Not-For-Profit organizations qualify for nomination. All businesses, regardless of size, will be considered.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Peter Perry:
Information and nomination material must be submitted on a non-returnable basis. Submission should be made on 8" x 11 paper
Comprehensive details of the nominee's involvement and history of service to enable the selection committee to have adequate information to make their selection
Please be as specific as possible giving community involvement and what this citizen has done for the Town of Whitby, including names of groups and organizations

Business Achievement Awards:

Business Person Achievement Award
Excellence in one or more of these categories: customer service, responsible for explosive growth in the company, has brought an innovative product/service to the market, makes significant investment in research & development, investing in significant employee development, or has made significant economic contribution to the community this year.

Business Achievement 1-49 Employees
Excellence in one or more of these categories: technological development; product research & development, explosive company growth, environmental consciousness, business development or turnaround, product/service advancement, marketing innovation, exports, strategic alliances, increased employment, ISO attainment, community relations/improvement

Business Achievement 50 or more Employees
Excellence in one or more of these categories: technological development; product research & development, explosive company growth, business development or turnaround, product/service advancement, marketing innovation, exports, strategic alliances, increased employment, ISO attainment, community relations/improvement. Demonstrated efforts to improve conditions in the business community. Voluntary provision of professional services to other businesses.

Young Entrepreneur
Recognition of an entrepreneur who is under the age of 35, has a successful business operation, and has made significant accomplishments of any kind in the past year.

Recognition of a business who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of skills development and training. This may include programs in apprenticeship training, excellence in skills training and cooperative education opportunities for students.

Healthy Workplace
Recognition of a business that has developed and implemented employee health and wellness programs that include raising awareness, education, and policy support. This may include, but is not limited to the following initiatives: distributing employee newsletter, organizing employee health fair, providing an Employee Assistance Program and creating a workplace policy that supports health promotion in the work environment

Environmental Achievement
Recognition of a business that demonstrates superior environmentally conscious actions, polices, and procedures and is guided by a sense of responsibility and respect for the environment. This may include, but not limited to the following initiatives: recycling programs, reduction of processes that deplete natural resources, re-use or elimination of waste or by-products that may adversely affect the environment, initiatives designed to conserve, preserve or improve the environment
